Hydration

November 18th 2016

With the warmer weather on its way, now is the time to be prepared if dehydration becomes an issue. Dehydration occurs when your body is losing more fluids than it is taking in and is often heat related. Water does not contain the electrolytes our bodies lose through sweat or illnesses such as vomiting and diarrhoea.

Common symptoms of dehydration include:

  • dry mouth
  • thirst
  • tiredness
  • fatigue
  • loss of appetite
  • heat intolerance
  • dizziness
  • headache

Fortunately, dehydration is largely preventable in most cases by drinking plenty of fluids and eating foods that contain a lot of water, such as fruits and vegetables. The best way to beat dehydration is to drink before you get thirsty. By the time you feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated.

Alcoholic and caffeinated beverages, such as coffee, teas and soft drinks, are not recommended for maximum hydration. These fluids tend to pull water from the body and promote dehydration.

In the event of becoming dehydrated it is not enough to drink plain water.

At Campbell & Freebairn we have a range of products to assist. Hydralyte is a scientifically formulated oral rehydration solution for the effective treatment of dehydration.

In accordance with the World Health Organisation guidelines for oral rehydration therapy, all products in the range contain the correct balance of glucose and electrolytes required for rapid hydration.

Hydralyte works by replacing fluid and electrolytes lost due to vomiting, diarrhoea, heavy sweating and excess alcohol consumption.

Hydralyte is suitable for the whole family and is available in store at Campbell & Freebairn today.

We stock Hydralyte in various forms such as sachets, icy poles, effervescent tablets & ready to drink fluid. We also have frozen icy poles available for immediate use.
